T.E.A.M. Therapy
T.E.A.M. Therapy is a highly effective therapy method developed by Dr. David Burns at Stanford , one of the fathers of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT):
Testing - prior to and after therapy sessions, clients fill out brief rating scales to assess the severity of the issue. After therapy, clients evaluate their therapy session. Any concerns about the therapy or our relationship will be addressed quickly.
Empathy - therapists receive rigorous, ongoing training in order to understand accurately the client's thoughts and feelings
Agenda Setting - want to change but feel as if you are getting in your own way? Agenda setting helps clients name what is causing them to remain stuck, find their motivation and take the actions to achieve their goals.
Methods - 50 specific and powerful tools to help alter distorted thinking, improve relationships, break bad habits and increase self-esteem

Intensives
Instead of meeting for the traditional weekly therapy session, we meet for several extended sessions over the course of a weekend, week or month. In between sessions, clients work on psychotherapy homework to reinforce the skills they learn in sessions. Intensives have the potential to bring about rapid, lasting change and can be extremely rewarding.
Children and Teenagers
Children and teenagers benefit from the rapid gains made from using the powerful tools available through T.E.A.M. therapy, just as adults do. At the same time, they face challenges unique to being a young person. Your fifth grader can't decide that she would find a more supportive peer group in the other class or that she would like to have some space from her younger brother, the way an adult can decide to leave a job or a relationship. I begin my work with children and adolescents by doing a comprehensive assessment of the systems in which they live - as well as a thorough intake of their developmental stage. I I partner with families to create a comprehensive treatment plan to improve satisfaction and enjoyment of all areas of life.
I have extensive experience providing mental health services in both public and independent schools and use this background to understand the social and emotional development of children and teenagers. I have had the opportunity to train in Responsive Classroom, a program designed to set up classrooms based on a respect for each child's development. While continually understanding that every child is unique, I am able to help parents learn more about navigating developmental stages. When working with children, I include all significant caregivers in order to create consistency and calm for your child and to bring about rapid change.
While children and teenagers can be more open than adults to learning new ways of thinking and relating, no change can take place without a collaborative, supportive, caring and respectful therapeutic relationship. Young people are often not accustomed to giving adults feedback on their ability to understand thoughts and feelings accurately. I will provide specific information to your child about the importance of telling me how I am doing on the weekly therapy evaluation in order to make sure the relationship is strong enough for your child to open up about all aspects of their lives, even the parts they are embarrassed about.

Pediatric Hypnosis
I was fortunate to receive training in pediatric hypnosis from the National Pediatric Hypnosis Institute and can use hypnosis in appropriate circumstances as an adjunct to therapy to help your child manage anxiety, performance anxiety and to enhance sleep. Hypnosis shares many characteristics with mindfulness and positive visualization and is essentially a state of intense focus during relaxation. There is an excellent description from the University of Michigan School of Medicine on How Hypnosis Works. Because children access their imagination more easily than adults, they can often enter a state of trance quite easily. Hypnosis is extremely empowering for children because they can readily learn relaxation and focus skills to use on their own!
